Shopify product export checker
Choose the CSV from Products › Export in your Shopify admin. You'll get a list of the gaps that cause wrong shipping rates, rejected Google listings and inventory mix-ups, each one with its CSV row so you can find it.
Runs entirely in your browser. The file is read on your device and never uploaded.
What it checks
| Check | Rule | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Missing weight | Weight is empty or 0 on a variant that requires shipping (gift cards are skipped) | Why rates go wrong |
| Barcode fails check digit | Typed GTIN, UPC, EAN or ISBN barcodes, and untyped barcodes that are 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits. Other custom codes are left alone. | Fix invalid GTINs |
| Duplicate SKU / barcode | Same SKU, or same GTIN in any length, on more than one variant | Fix duplicates |
| Missing barcode | No barcode on a shippable variant | Products without a GTIN |
| Missing SKU | No SKU on a variant | Add one in the product editor or the SKU column |
| Zero price | Price is 0 or empty on an active product | Usually a template or import mistake |
| No images / no alt text | No image rows for a product, or image rows with an empty Image alt text | Add in the product's media section |
| No product category | Product category is empty | Set it in the product editor |
This tool reads Shopify's current CSV columns (URL handle, SKU, Variant Barcodes, Weight value (grams), Product image URL) as well as the older names (Handle, Variant SKU, Variant Barcode, Variant Grams, Image Src). Shopify's own product CSV help page describes each column.
An export only shows the data as it was when you exported it. Once you've fixed things in the admin, export again before you re-check.
