Shipping weight helper

Three quick calculators for getting product weights into Shopify correctly, and a table of rough ranges for spotting weights that are obviously wrong.

Packed weight

Item weight times quantity, plus the box or mailer, plus filler. If you use carrier-calculated rates, Shopify adds the package weight from your shipping settings on its own. In that case, enter just the item weight on the product.

Dimensional weight

Carriers bill large, light boxes by size: length × width × height ÷ a divisor. Common divisors are 139 and 166 (inches and pounds) and 5000 (centimetres and kilograms), but each carrier and contract sets its own, so check your rate guide.

Rough weight ranges for a sanity check

These are broad ranges for unpacked items. They're only meant for catching mistakes such as a hoodie at 0 g, or a T-shirt at 200 lb because someone typed grams into a pound field. They are not a replacement for weighing. Put one of each product on a kitchen or shipping scale, then copy that weight to every variant of the same size.
